About The Festival

The Zig Zag Festival will run between Friday 5th and Saturday 6th October 2018.

The festival is spread across 2 venues both with live music:

  • The Village Hall

The village hall is where you start. Here you present your advance ticket or buy a ticket on the door. You will be issued with a festival glass, a guide and have your hand stamped. This will give you entry the village hall for both days and let you buy tokens which can be exchanged for beer at all venues, wine at the village hall and select wines at the pubs.

The tokens give you a discounted price on beer and wine.

The Village Hall will have up to 14 real ales, 10 wines & 2 ciders.

There are 3 sessions in the hall:

    • Friday : 7pm - 10.30pm
    • Saturday : 12pm - 5pm
    • Saturday : 7pm - 10.30pm

  • The Selborne Arms

The Selborne Arms will have up to 8 real ales and a selection of wines and ciders. It will also be serving food throughout the festival.

History

The festival is named after Selborne’s famous Zig Zag Path which climbs up from the village to the top of Selborne Hanger. The path was cut in 1753 by naturalist and ornithologist Gilbert White with help from his brother. The views from the top are spectacular and climbing the Zig Zag is a highly recommended excursion for any visitor to Selborne.

The Zig Zag Festival was born in 2005 with the aim of promoting the village and its pubs along with local food producers, brewers and musicians. Only one pub - The Selborne Arms - remains in the village and the festival is split between here and the village hall with live music and a large range of ales and wine in both venues.

The festival runs from Friday evening through to Saturday evening. Friday and Saturday evenings have lively headline music acts in both venues whereas the Saturday afternoon session in the village hall is a more relaxed, family friendly affair with a focus on folk and acoustic music acts.

Food is available in both venues throughout all sessions.

Although not intended as fundraiser any money raised is ploughed back into village community projects. Recent donations include resurfacing the village tennis court, kitchen refurbishment at the village hall and start-up funding for the annual Christmas Fair.
